Every 1st Tuesday is CHIRP Night at the Whistler — an evening of CHIRP-curated local artists, Whistler cocktails, and the good feeling of supporting independent radio.
Sons of Ra formed in 2000 as an experimental instrumental ensemble. The identity and lineup of the band morphed considerably during the early 2000s performing around the midwest, experimenting with mixing electronic music with modal and hard-bop jazz influences. The current trio line-up embraces their roots in jazz fusion, heavier progressive music with a bend for experimentation in form and working as a trio with members working in multi-instrumentalists and incorporating looping and synthesizers with their latest compositions. They’ve shared the stage with such artists as Stu Hamm, Sonar, Chester Thompson & Alphonso Johnson, and Consider the Source.
Harmony happens in the center of extremes. Live instrumentation and multi-layered soundscapes come together in CHNNLL’s unique vision of alternative pop. Chicago-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer a.k.a. Chris Davidson tempers emotional subject matter with bold melodies, coating raw truths in hummable hooks.
