Year of the Fire Horse Gallery Installation Unveiling
The Japanese Culture Center presents a special gallery installation dedicated to the Year of the Horse at Whistler Chicago on February 21. Drawing from the Center’s collection, the installation features selected artwork and cultural artifacts alongside a newly created neon sign spelling “Chicago” using a forgotten spelling from the Meiji period. Together, these elements reflect the spirit of the Fire Horse, energy, resilience, and forward motion while highlighting the enduring strength and presence of Japanese arts in Chicago.
The evening opens with a reception at 6:00 PM. At 8:00 PM, butoh artist Sara Zalek will perform, activating the space through movement rooted in contemporary Japanese dance. The night continues with a DJ set by Van Paugam from 10:00 PM to 2:30 AM.
