Book Club: Through the Looking-Glass

Descend with us into a psychedelic Wonderland at this month’s Book Club, which is inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll. Creative, modernist cocktails will be coupled with dreamy and colorful visuals by SOOP and music from Plastic Crimewave designed to evoke the sense of discovery and exploration within Alice’s wild imagination. Pop open that tiny bottle and take a sip; you may find that the world around you becomes curiously larger - or are you just shrinking? Voyage down the rabbit-hole at The Whistler on April 27.

Chicago-native Plastic Crimewave is known as a "psychedelic guru" of sorts, and is the creator of the Galactic Zoo Dossier, a hand-drawn magazine published by Drag City since 2001. Crimewave also draws/writes the bi-weekly Secret History of Chicago Music comics for the Chicago Reader for over a decade, books/founded the avant/psych festival Million Tongues featuring international musicians, has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary art, and has drawn countless comics, posters, album covers, and branding art for Lush Cosmetics. PCW (Steve Krakow) currently leads the spacerock band Plastic Crimewave Syndicate, plays in the spacey duo Spiral Galaxy, and has DJ-ed all over the world, from London to Tokyo.

Book Club is a monthly series featuring creative interpretations of modern and classic works of literary fiction as told through cocktails and music. Join us as we explore epic stories with bespoke beverages named after and inspired by moments from each narrative. These custom-tailored cocktails will be accompanied by musical and/or visual elements designed to evoke the atmosphere of each individual work of fiction.
