Quentin Coaxum showed an affinity for music at a very young age. Upon taking up the trumpet in elementary school, he took a liking to the tapes and records left behind by his grandfather. It was these same recordings that inspired him to take an interest in jazz that would later blossom into a passion for all music. Originally growing up just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, Coaxum currently resides in Chicago, IL, where he is an active musician and has emerged as one of Chicagoʼs brightest emerging young trumpeters.
During his time in Chicago, Coaxum has been a featured performer at The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Hyde Park Jazz Festival, and the University of Chicago’s Logan Arts Jazz Series. Coaxum’s first album as a leader, “Current”, was released on the Skiptone Music Label in 2014, and his most recent project, “You & I” was released inn September of 2020.
Coaxum’s most recent project, “Satellite”, is a musical exploration of the personal growth Coaxum experienced during a creative hiatus from 2021-2022. The music was inspired by some of Coaxum’s darkest times and the beautiful moments that brought him through to the present.
