Comprised of Javier Red on piano, Dan Thatcher on bass, and Tim Davis on drums, the trio presents interpretations of Thelonious Monk's compositions in celebration of the jazz legend’s birthday yesterday. They skillfully meld Monk's distinct rhythmic nuances with their own improvisational styles, creating a captivating musical experience.
Javier Red, Jazz Pianist hailing from the vibrant city of Chicago. Over the years, Javier has dedicated to his non-conventional jazz band, Javier Red's Imagery Converter. With this ensemble, He has released two albums that have garnered critical acclaim. "Ephemeral Certainties" was even selected within the Debut Album category by the 2019 NPR Jazz Critics Poll. More recently, we released "Life & Umbrella," which has received noteworthy praise in publications such as Chicago Reader, Jazziz, and two four-star reviews in All About Jazz. While he continues to pursue his original jazz endeavors, Javier has also taken on leading traditional jazz propositions.
Daniel Thatcher, is a bassist/composer/improviser based in Chicago. His versatility and wide range of musical sensibility has led him to be a mainstay in Chicago’s diverse music scene for nearly 20 years. Equally comfortable in the realms of jazz and improvised music, classical, musical theater, pop/rock, and experimental music, he floats freely. He thrives as a bandleader, composing and presenting his ensembles Waterwheel and Storytime, as well as his continuously evolving solo work. As a sideman he lends his supportive presence to an array of original music ensembles, such as Origin of Animal, Lapis Trio, and Beveled.
Tim Davis, Kansas City native he is a seasoned drummer who's made his mark in Chicago since 1992. He honed his craft at the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Tim's extensive experience includes teaching roles at various institutions and performing with jazz luminaries like Nat Adderly and Dave Liebman. He's an integral part of Chicago's jazz scene, collaborating with notable artists and being the resident drummer for the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. Tim's versatile skills are showcased on numerous recordings, including recent releases like Curtis Fuller's "Up Jumped Spring."
