IRIS is a Chicago jazz collective comprised of Arman Sangalang, Kirby Fellis, Austyn Menk, Morgan Turner, and Paul Barrilles. The group was born out of their mutual desire to fuse jazz’s historic subgenres, such as hard bop and post bop, with a modern aesthetic. Their compositions are a reaction of their musical upbringing, influenced by musicians like Mulgrew Miller, Roy Hargrove, Wayne Shorter and Walter Smith III. IRIS, being rooted in blues and improvised music, has taken their collective voices to create a musical composite that is both timeless and modern.
