  • Kari Novilla - harp

  • Mary Halm - bass

Kari Novilla is an internationally recognized, multi-genre harpist whose work spans classical, jazz, and electronics, and is rooted in a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and outreach to under-served communities. She produces her own charity concerts and educational programs, maintains an active performing career as a soloist, orchestral musician, and bandleader, and has appeared on numerous concerts, recordings, and soundtracks in the US and Europe. Trained in both classical and jazz harp, she has performed at major venues from Wigmore Hall to the Kennedy Center, worked with leading orchestras and conductors, and now makes Chicago her base as a Fellow and Principal Harpist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago while running a vibrant private teaching studio and freelancing for concerts, weddings, worship services, and civic events.

Mary Halm is a Chicago-based bassist, composer, and educator performing across jazz, musical theatre, folk, and experimental music. She has led bands at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival and Hey Nonny Women’s Jazz Festival and is an active collaborator in Chicago’s creative music scene, known for her versatility and strong musical instincts.

As an educator, she teaches in Chicago-area schools, maintains a private studio, and has worked with programs like Birch Creek Fine Arts Camp. She has also served as a clinician and adjudicator for regional festivals and holds both a BM and MM in Jazz Studies from DePaul University.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, we present Chicago’s top jazz artists in a lively atmosphere, full of cocktail-shaking and spirited conversation.
