For this incarnation of Dave Rempis' ongoing series of sax/drum duets, he meets up with longtime collaborator and ubiquitous Chicago drummer Jeremy Cunningham for their first duo performance in several years.

Coming from different corners of the Chicago jazz world, these two have enjoyed the cross-pollinating effect of bringing together disparate perspectives and approaches to the music since their first duo concert back in 2014.  In recent years, the two have worked together most frequently in their collaborative quartet with trumpet Russ Johnson and bassist Jakob Heinemann, a lineup that mines similar territory for exploration.

They also co-curated a month of weekly concerts together at the Whistler back in 2019, featuring a broad roster of artists including Mars Williams, Russ Johnson, Joshua Abrams, Ayana Woods, Katie Ernst, Avreeayl Ra, Quin Kirchner, Tyler Damon, and Isaiah Spencer.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, we present Chicago’s top jazz artists in a lively atmosphere, full of cocktail-shaking and spirited conversation.
