CHIRP Night w/ DJ Jessi D, DJ Nikki, & DJ rexi

CHIRP Night returns to The Whistler with DJ sets by DJ Jessi D, DJ Nikki, and DJ rexi. CHIRP Night is an evening where you can enjoy CHIRP-curated music, Whistler cocktails, and the good feeling of supporting independent radio.

Jessi D hails from the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona, which is just as bad as it sounds. She moved to Chicago in 2011 after falling in love with the city while visiting for Lollapalooza and has been dicking around in the Midwest ever since. She's been on the millennial side hustle grind for the last few years, leading the podcast production department at community radio station CHIRP Radio, operating a vintage food truck that served fancy doughnuts, running a latte art training program for a restaurant group, writing copy for a mid-size local coffee roasting company, and DJing weddings where she regularly tells someone's drunk uncle that that no, she will not play Frank Sinatra right after "Get Low." Her most prized freelance gig was bartending a Studio 54-themed funeral. In her spare time, she loves cooking, wandering around cemeteries, and trying new hot sauces.

Driven to connect shadows of dots between eras, tones, and production, Nikki approaches musical curation with an interest in pairing the unexpected. Her tastes lie at a curious intersection where the only way out is through, exploring the edges of genres and straddling the clear, fishing wire lines between them which blur classification. She is a weekly DJ on CHIRP where she hosts under the name “Beatnik” each Tuesday evening. Nikki has been involved in the organization since 2018, and directs the Blog in addition to her weekly show.

DJ rexi (they/them) is a multi-faceted artist from Chicago’s northside. They can be found across the city playing everything from niche 90s nights to obscure Italian disco. Outside the bar scene they have built a career DJing & emceeing weddings, with a strong focus on queer couples / queer joy. DJ rexi is also part of the CHIRP live events team as well as the Co-Director of the CHIRP Radio Artist interview series, featuring minority voices in the Chicago music scene. When they aren’t packing dance floors they are captaining the Chicago Mudqueens with their alter-er ego Miss Information, running their handmade jewelry business, or painting/crafting/creating something that came to them in a fever dream.
