CHIRP Night w/ Bret Koontz & Truancy Club, Beh'Ouai

Every 1st Tuesday is CHIRP Night at the Whistler — an evening of CHIRP-curated local artists, Whistler cocktails, and the good feeling of supporting independent radio.

Beh'Ouai is Laure Elie (k,v), Jesse (d), Billy (g), and Krame (b,v). Intuitive sound creation: the transference of universal energy into auditory waves for cranial perception, corporeal enjoyment and asomatous ascension; a fluid, fertile firth, the confluence of the primitive and sophisticated; the cobbling of disparate vibrations into a transmorgraphical whole; an initiation and invitation for the audience to be both spectator and contributor to the proceedings. They call it "cosmic dance music".

The musical, visual, and interactive elements of a Beh'Ouai performance are an expression of this philosophy, every live engagement is a living moment for both the artists and the audience. Relax your body, relax your mind, relax your spirit and channel Beh'Ouai into being, and they will do the same until we are all being Beh'Ouai.

Bret Koontz & Truancy Club's music couches radical ideas in lush sonic invitations—Pop music's original and best function. Out of soothing tones that seem to pinpoint something shared and unspoken, a singular lyrical voice cuts through the static to coax us momentarily into a place of truth and levity.

When Bret moved to Chicago from Nashville, he found an arts scene that was smearing the lines between music, performance, and media in a way that hadn't seemed allowed elsewhere. He spent the following years experimenting in this scene: making comics and plays, leading avant synth-pop group Cool Memories, playing in a number of seminal underground bands (John Bellows, Rind, Bomb Banks), and co-founding Situations, a long-running DIY venue of Chicago's twenty-teens.

CHIRP is a volunteer-driven, community radio station that focuses on music, arts, and culture. The station can be heard on the north side of Chicago at 107.1FM and worldwide at chirpradio.org. The station broadcasts live every day from 6am-midnight from their studios in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood.
