Blue Earth Sound is James Weir’s debut as a bandleader and composer. The Chicago musician has spent most of his musical life playing in rock bands, first as the bassist for the influential post-punk outfit NE-HI and later as a keyboardist for the synth-rock group Spun Out.

BES is an expansive jazz collective that excels in lush, immersive arrangements on Cicero Nights, a full-length album of eight organic and transportive instrumentals that simultaneously evoke the hazy, neon-lit late city nights and meditative daytime strolls.
