Diorama – Presented by The Field Museum

September 2018

Artist: The Field Museum

In celebration of The Field Museum’s 125th anniversary, our gallery is featuring original specimens from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, from which the Field itself originated. Bar patrons and passersby will get an up-close look at a stuffed red panda, skeletons of a wolverine and golden eagle, and a cast of a dinosaur bone.

We’ll also be hosting a series of Field-led discussions exploring the history, science and uses of alcohol.

  • Sunday, September 9, 6pm—7pm: Biology of Beer, a talk with Field researcher Matthew Nelsen and brewer Marty Scott of Revolution Brewing, about the science of alcohol.

  • Tuesday, September 18, 7pm—8pm: Hard Stuff, a talk with Field curator Ryan Williams and Lucas Livingston of the Art Institute on ancient brewing practices in Egypt and Peru.

  • Sunday, September 30, 6pm—7pm: Pickled, an interview with Field’s collections assistant Kayleigh Kueffner and staff scientist Holly Lutz about preserving animals in alcohol.
