Slo ‘Mo: Slow jams for queer fam

Cue the Tony, Toni, Tone. It’s Slo ‘Mo’s anniversary! Per tradition, we’ll kick off the bday bbq in the backyard at 8pm with a Janet Jackson Power Hour, followed by a special anniversary all-night set by resident DJ Audio Jack.

For over six years, Slo ‘Mo has been a space where we’ve congregated to connect, heal, and express ourselves. This is not the first, nor will it be the last time we gather in the wake of national despair and disappointment. The dance floor is a revolutionary place, and on ours we respect each other’s processes and personal spaces. We’re here for self reflection as much as we are for the joy generating vibes and community connection. Slo ‘Mo celebrates and centers queer, trans & non-binary folks and people of color. Given the times, and the elevated nature of the anniversary, we ask that allies are mindful of the space they take up whether in line or on the dance floor, as capacity is limited and safe space for our family to feel safe and see themselves reflected positively is paramount.

Thanks to all our fam — those rocking since day one to new folks — for pushing us to grow, as well as growing with us. We have so much love for this movement we’ve made together and can’t wait to celebrate six years with you.

Slo ‘Mo is Chicago’s party for lovers. Hosted by Kristen Kaza with grooves by Audio Jack, Slo ‘Mo celebrates the music of Anita Baker, Sade, Frank Ocean, SWV, D’Angelo, Janet Jackson, Prince, Raphael Saadiq,Isley Brothers, Maxwell, Mary J Blige and many others. Slo ‘Mo’s monthly residency at The Whistler takes place on the third Thursdays and welcomes people of all identities, bodies and expressions uniting under the equal opportunistic style of soul music.
