Roy McGrath is a tenor saxophonist, composer, bandleader and sideman living in Chicago, Illinois. Born March 17th, 1988 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Roy’soriginal introduction to music came through his love for singing and his integration into his middle school and high school choir as a tenor. His serious dedication towards choral singing led him to choose another musical outlet in the form of another instrument. He started playing tenor saxophone at the age of 16. Two years later during the Berklee College of Music summer workshops in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Roy was awarded a full scholarship to attend Berklee School of Music’s Five Week Summer Performance Program. During this time he also began performing with notable Beach Boys ex-alumni and jazz pianist Carli Muñoz. Playing with Carli Muñoz and his trio Roy learned the subtleties of improvisation and gained experience playing with experienced musicians.
