John Goldman’s Quadrangle
John Goldman began his professional career in his home town Portland, Oregon with some of the area’s best musicians such as Tom Grant, David Friesen, and Jeff Lorber. After years of playing, composing and teaching on the west coast, John decided on the suggestion and encouragement of saxophone great Eddie Harris, to relocate in Chicago. Since moving to Chicago in 1988, John has added to his already eclectic influence from the West Coast. He has performed extensively with Brazilian musicians Paulino Garcia, Chicago Samba, and Luciano Antonio, as well as Latin Jazz artists Ruben Alvarez, Silvia Sossa, and Tito Carrillo. He has performed with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra.

7th Annual Scary Movie Party
An annual no-budget homemade scary movie showcase screened ’round Halloweentime and organized by hyper-motivated art/music/film maniacs in Chicago.
Scary Movie Party began in a basement somewhere in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood masquerading as a Halloween party way back in 2004. With scenes replicated in hand-painted cardboard, complete with dry-ice fog, we projected Tim Burton’s The Nightmare before Christmas on a crappy old piece of muslin, ate food a la potluck and drank beers. Inspired by the excited party chatter from that night, we decided to take the movie-making into our own hands and thrust ourselves headlong into creating horror-comedy hybrid animals for our creepy attic screenings.

MOVIEOKE!
Movieoke (verb): To perform a classic movie scene for an audience, karaoke-style. Ex: “Did you see Karen movieoke? She totally acted the shit out of that Big Lebowski scene.” Movieoke is literally karaoke with movie scenes instead of music. Performers don costumes, take the mic and act out the movie scenes playing on the big screen behind them. Think there won’t be something that suits your liking??? Think again. There are over 200 scenes to choose from. So, put on a costume and Movieoke! Presented by the Vintage Theater Collective. Created and hosted by Katy Collins. Movieoke at the Whistler on the first Monday of every month.

Netherfriends
Emerging from the rooftops of Chicago in 2007, Netherfriends are that bastard-psych-pop-catchy as hell band that you’ve been searching for. They recently signed with indie label Emergency Umbrella. Their debut 6 song EP “Calling You Out,” fused heavily layered arrangements with group sing-a-longs, spare pianos, synths, glockenspiels and other hard to place, but familiar sounds. The three-piece psychedelic pop band grabbed some early spark and attention from places like Blender and RCRD LBL and have played at both SXSW in Austin and CMJ in New York City. Netherfriends features Shawn Rosenblatt (vocals, guitar, keys, drums, and samples) a freshly minted college graduate of music composition, planning to put his education to use from the road. At the moment, he has many different individuals play with him live.

Icarus Himself
“Where many have compared the guy to Beirut and Neutral Milk Hotel (I’ll give you the lite-psych of “This Means Nothing”) but to these ears it’s more Spoon-noir shuffling.” —World of Wumme
“‘lost Bowie demo tape overdubbed with acid confessions.’ That should warm you up for (Nick) Whetro’s eleven-track, half-hour romp and prepare you for what first feels like alt-country experiments with a lunatic wailing at the back.” —cokemachineglow
“…freewheeling pop songs flavored with a splash of sonic whiskey.” —No Ripcord
“Sounds of folk, disguised as electro-pop, disguised as psych rock, disguised as indie rock propel the release into a strength that’s never foreboding. Whetro and his bandmates spin off as many fantastically drastic twists and modifications to thrill every sense.” —Delusions of Adequacy
“A-” —Onion AV Club
