Spooky Action at a Distance

Makaya McCraven & Shane Parish

↳ “Spooky Action at a Distance” was recorded live at The Whistler’s Stars Align series. Stars Align is a monthly concert series and podcast hosted by Mike Ewing that brings together musicians for a unique, one-off collaboration. This pairing proved to be an inspired one, especially considering that Makaya and Shane met on stage for the very first time right before the show.

Shane Parish: “It was an exhilarating experience meeting and playing with Makaya. We had not met before this date and we have not seen each other since! I flew into Chicago, with the support of International Anthem, just for this occasion. Kind of incredible. One can imagine what we could come up with if we played together a few more times. I am very happy this document exists! He is one of the best drummers in the world, and its was truly an honor, and I feel like I grew as a musician from the experience.”

Makaya McCraven: “Shane and I hadn’t met before playing together. There was truly beautiful energy in the room and it felt like we’ve known each other for years! Shane is a wonderful dynamic musician and we share a lot of musical vocabulary. It’s really cool to be able to connect and communicate with someone without using words or literal language. It’s kind of like magic both between the musicians and audience. I’m glad it was documented.”
