January 8, 2013
Acclaimed cornetist Rob Mazurek brings another of his myriad projects to The Whistler’s Relax Attack Jazz Series with a month-long residency in January (1, 2, 8, 15, and 22). Featuring frequent collaborators Matthew Lux on bass (Iron and Wine, Isotope 217) and John Herndon on drums (Tortoise) — plus special guests throughout the month, such as Mikel Avery and Leroy Bach — Mazurek’s Throne of the House of Good and Evil mines new territory within his ever-expanding musical universe. Mazurek has previously brought groups such as the Exploding Star Orchestra and the Pulsar Quartet for residencies at The Whistler, and this string of dates in January fits into our vision of offering Chicago-based experimental jazz groups an opportunity to present fresh material in front of a live audience.
