Every Sunday, The Whistler and North Coast Brewing team up to present our favorite jazz artists. With roots deep in the New Orleans tradition, The Bridge Trio is made up of drummer Joe Dyson (Dr. Lonnie Smith & Nicholas Payton), pianist Conun Pappas, and bassist Max Moran (Christian Scott), all alumni of New Orleans saxophone master Donald Harrison’s band. Having enjoyed steadily increasing professional recognition and success in the jazz world as band members of such jazz greats, the members of Bridge Trio bring forth their own innovative, original compositions in a small-combo format. Dyson, Moran, and Pappas carry on Harrison’s “Nouveau Swing” style, which merges modern dance musics such as r&b, hip-hop, soul, rock, and jazz with Afro-New Orleans traditional music.
The Bridge Trio has performed on international stages in prestigious festivals, performance halls and nightclubs in places such as Paris, Morocco, St. Croix, French Guiana, Brazil, Spain, Greece, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and many others and have been featured in David Simon’s hit HBO Series “Treme”. All three members attended New Orleans’ arts conservatory, NOCCA, where they studied under the legendary Alvin Batiste; they are also graduates of two of the country’s most distinguished music schools; Dyson and Moran received degrees from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and Pappas is a graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City.
They are a very unique trio of young musicians who stand strong as members of the next line of jazz virtuosos to come out of the thriving music traditions of New Orleans.
